Umbilical Cord Blood Banks

Umbilical Cord Blood Banks

Umbilical cord blood contains stem cells that can ethically be used to treat diseases. In 2003 measures were introduced in Congress to establish a National Cord Blood Cell Bank Network. These measures have support from both sides of the stem cell debate. The Conference Report on the Fiscal Year 2004 Omnibus Appropriations Bill includes $10 million to establish a "National Cord Blood Stem Cell Bank Program." Also see: Stem Cell Research.
